back in the fall of 2009 i had the opportunity to travel to phnom penh, cambodia with
this organization. As you will read on their website, "The vision behind
Chab Dai (which means “joining hands” in Khmer) was founded in Cambodia in 2005. Chab Dai aims to bring an end to trafficking and sexual exploitation through coalition building, community prevention, advocacy and research." These are certainly global issues, and I am thankful to once again be partnering with an organization who seeks freedom for the men, women, and children who are affected by such abuse. i am thrilled to say that as of March 1, I will be joining them {remotely} as Creative Support on a part-time basis, and I look forward to using my love for creativity, advocacy, and photography for an organization such as theirs.
in other news, i will begin new job #2 in the middle of march. for the last several months i have been volunteering from time to time with the Catholic Charities Refugee Services. about a month ago they asked me to consider applying for their part-time Case Worker position, which i did, and which i have (thankfully!) been offered. i accepted and will start on march 15. i feel so fortunate to be able to work with and assist these families as they settle into a new life in St. Louis.
i feel more connected now to the "courtney" that i became in kolkata, india, and to the global issues that i hold dear, than i have in years. and for that i am very thankful.
*my last day at wash u will be tuesday, february 28!
